BRITISH SPEEDWAY NEWS AND FIXTURES 5.8.04
05 August 2004 - British Speedway Promoters Association

WORLD Cup hero Joe Screen has been left out of Great Britain''s team for Saturday''s final at Poole - with his own blessing.

Screen, who rode superbly to help his side beat holders Sweden on Monday, held talks with British boss Neil Middleditch. Middleditch said: ''Joe said Gary Havelock would be better suited to the Poole track which was a fabulous and very honest gesture. He will be with us on the night.''

JAMES Brundle will make a track return for Mildenhall on Sunday - just weeks after coming off a life support machine. The British youngster, who was involved in a road accident, will ride against King''s Lynn in the Knockout Cup at West Row. Fen Tigers boss Graham Drury said: ''It''s amazing to think how the lad has recovered and he''s shown a lot of determination. It will be good to have him back.''

JACK Hargreaves and Lee Smart are the latest youngsters to be called up by Great Britain. They will both make their Under 21 debuts against Australia at Mildenhall on Sunday week (August 15). GB Under-21 boss Peter Oakes said: ''This will be the fourth test of the year for us and we have managed to involve 17 different riders, only two of which will be too old next year.''
