BRITISH SPEEDWAY NEWS AND FIXTURES 6.8.04
06 August 2004 - British Speedway Promoters Association
FAVOURITES Australia crashed out of the World Cup in dramatic circumstances at Poole.
Holders Sweden won the race-off on 49-points to join Great Britain and Denmark in the final, but Poland just had the edge over Australia by one-point. Tomasz Gollob beat Jason Crump in the last race when Crump was racing for double-points and this was enough to put the Poles through on a night of high drama. TOMASZ Gollob is refusing to make any predictions for the World Cup Final after helping Poland through at the expense of Australia. The former Ipswich man said: ''I am so thrilled for us to be in the final, we had to keep pushing and it was very close in the end. ''I don''t know who will win it. Anything can happen on the night and we will all go into the meeting to try our best. We can do it if everything goes well for us.'' JASON Crump was philosophical in defeat after seeing Australia go out of the World Cup in the race-off. The Belle Vue star said: ''I didn''t think we would have a problems going into a meeting like that, but I didn''t like it. ''We blew it. We should have taken advantage of the inside gate and we didn ''t. Now I''m going to regroup and get set for the next Grand Prix.''
