CHRIS Van Straaten is staying with Wolverhampton - despite a successful planning application to revive speedway on Teesside. Van Straaten has joined forces with ex-Eastbourne boss Gareth Rogers and has gained a 10-year lease at the South Tees Motorsports Park at South Bank near Middlesbrough with 28 Thursday nights on the cards next year. Rogers will be in charge of the day-to-day running of the club to leave Van Straaten to concentrate on his Wolverhampton duties. A decision on whether to enter the Conference or Premier League will be made when Van Straaten returns from the sport''s AGM in Tenerife this week. Rogers said: ''Redcar Bears is the favourite name of the promotion - but we''ll be open to suggestions. ''I''ve got to thank the Council for their tremendous dialogue during these discussions - it''s the best I''ve had with any local authority. We''re delighted to be bringing speedway back and we''ll be announcing which league we''ll operate in as soon as possible. ''We also want to involve lots of people who were linked to speedway on Teesside in the past and we''ll be holding a public meeting to discuss our plans, hopefully before Christmas.''
