SHEFFIELD promoter Neil Machin says that this week''s pre-AGM meeting of Premier League club bosses left him optimistic.

The futures of several second tier clubs are somewhat uncertain but some common ground was found ahead of the AGM in Tenerife next week.

Machin said: ''We all have things in place now for us to ratify at the AGM and I believe we can again operate as a superb product next season.''

THE decision on Tony Mole''s renewed bid to re-open speedway at Birmingham will now not be made until December 22 at the earliest.

The delay is due to a series of consultations which are required before the planning committee can meet to consider the new proposals.

Mole said: ''I remain very committed to the Birmingham project and I will stick with it even if we cannot run there next season.''
