M.A.D. Limited [Motorcycle Accessories Direct] launched their M.A.D. GOLD at OGRI with M.A.D. Mel enticing all and sundry with her wares.

The drink, a full strength rum from the wilds of the West Indies, went down well with lads and lasses alike. According to Daz ”I got lavared in 2 hours, I haven’t done that since I was 12. What was worse I fell over my tent”. As he’s 6’5” this takes a bit of doing.

Initially Steve set up M.A.D. in 1998 because it was very frustrating finding parts for bikes. Now he is ably assisted by M.A.D. Jon and business is booming. It began with a 4th hand Renault Espace and a £75 tent from ASDA. Now M.A.D. is a regular feature at over 40 rallies and shows a year and are opening a state of the art showroom and warehouse in Chesham, Bucks to support the web-site and mail-order service.

“We offer 30,000 products, mostly bike-specific and 250,000 bikers visit our web-site a year. Even the Americans and Japanese order parts from us because they know it’s personal contact and we deliver our promises. You don’t get people like M.A.D. Jon working in an automated call centre. He might know everything about bikes, but he’d never say “Putting you on hold caller” or read from a computer screen telling him what questions to ask.”

According to Steve the key is knowing what’s what, delivering consistent speedy service and offering good value. Going to all these rallies gives them the inside track on what’s popular. This gave him the idea for M.A.D. GOLD. Steve says “There’s obviously a lot of partying at rallies. So I thought there was a need for a spirit that was really smooth, warmed you up after a hard day’s riding and was made by bikers for bikers. Being a British Company as well does no harm.”

A small quantity of M.A.D GOLD was shipped over from the Caribbean at the beginning of the year, with over 1,000 bikers helping us decide if we had a winner or not. Their answer was an overwhelming “Gimme More” and so they built with Hairy Design the M.A.D. Gold Volusia , recruited M.A.D. Mel and launched M.A.D. Gold.

Steve adds, “Quite a few MCCs and MCs are fans and we’ll be partying at lots of rallies. Pubs are selling it, as are off-licences. So give us a bell with your favourite biker pub or call us to buy on-line”
