Ultimate ear protection news
There''s danger in the air, and it''s called noise. The damage it does can permanently degrade your hearing - especially if you''re a motorcyclist. All-year riders are regularly subjected to hours of noise beyond what safety organisations consider as ''acceptably safe''. Current, safety in the workplace regulations, allow workers to request protection when noise levels reach 85dB. If this threshold rises to 90dB, noise protection is mandatory. In April 2006, the ''acceptably safe'' levels will be legally lowered to 80 and 85dB respectively. At the moment, there are no official regulations to protect motorcyclists, so, it''s every man (and women) for themselves. Riders are their own insurance policy against noise disability. For those demanding ultimate ear protection there is a solution. Ultimate Ear Protection (UEP) is a small Kent-based company at the vanguard of safety against noise. Its high technology products are world leading and mostly dedicated to solving the continuing noise problems faced by motorcyclists. Two new UEP products that meet all workplace safety recommendations and comfortably exceed the new noise levels scheduled for introduction in April 2006 will be launched on 28 October at the International Motorcycle & Scooter Show. The quaintly named Super Soft Squidgy earplugs are made from a special new material called (shhh... trade secret) and are custom made for each individual. Quick and painless moulds are taken of each ear and these are given to the customer along with a pair of perfectly fitting earplugs. The plugs will stay securely in place when putting on a helmet and remain in-situ when riding. Permanent noise protection is guaranteed without loss of the all-important feedback a rider relies upon from the engine. Super Soft Squidgy earplugs cost £59 (direct). The new Monitors product is directly related to UEP''s work in the professional music industry. The Monitors provide definitive noise protection and also perform as true high fidelity, stereophonic earphones. It is possible to plug into a bike''s communication system, or audio device such as an MP3 player, and listen to crystal clear sound with a minimum of external noise interference. UEP''s Monitors cost £149 and are made in the same way as the ''Squidgy'' product. The moulds are also given to the customer so that replacement (or new) products can be made quickly with minimal expense. Both new UEP products come in all sorts of funky colours and carry a two-year warranty.
