BRITISH SPEEDWAY NEWS AND FIXTURES 3.8.04
03 August 2004 - British Speedway Promoters Association
GREAT Britain are through to the World Speedway Cup Final after a powerful display to sweep aside holders Sweden at Eastbourne.
The host nation became the first qualifiers for Saturday''s showpiece event with a 58-point haul. Arena Essex man Mark Loram led the way with a 15-point maximum. Sweden finished runners-up on 50 and Poland scored 39 - both will compete in the race-off at Poole on Thursday - Hungary scored 6. MAXIMUM man Mark Loram believes Great Britain have plenty left in the tank for Saturday''s World Cup Final at Poole. Loram kept his nerve to beat five-times world champion Tony Rickardsson in his last ride at Eastbourne. Loram said: ''We haven''t wasted any energy and will have plenty to give for the Final on Saturday. If I can make five starts and get five wins on Saturday I''ll be happy!'' JUBILANT Great Britain boss Neil Middleditch saluted his team after seeing them go straight through to the World Cup Final. It was the first time Middleditch had his first choice of riders available in the fourth staging of the tournament. He said: ''Every year we have struggled as I haven''t had a full strength team, so to be able to pick this team was a major bonus.''
