SPEEDWAY 1) POOLE boss Neil Middleditch admits his side have a mountain to climb if they are to win the Craven Shield. The Pirates face Eastbourne and Oxford in their home leg on Wednesday and start the meeting 13-points adrift of leaders Eastbourne. Middleditch said: ''I never like to admit defeat, but in all honesty, it does look as though we need a miracle to get ourselves back into contention.'' (SPEEDWAY 2) TONY Mole is to submit a new planning application for speedway to return to Birmingham. The initial plans were thrown out by just one vote last week - on the grounds of noise and disturbance. The Kidderminster businessman said: ''Included in revised application will be the banning of air horns and also the installation of a temporary sound barrier which will be in the form of terracing or a grandstand.''
