Norasport Supermoto to end track’s season with something different
Cadwell Park has enjoyed another dramatic year of motor racing, and the 2005 season comes to a close this weekend (October 29/30) with a host of races that are different to anything else held at the Lincolnshire track. The 10th and final round of the Norasport Super-moto National Championships are due to be held there, and it’s all for the low price of just £6 per adult per day – with children getting in free. Racing on a special course which mixes gravel and asphalt and is used only once a year, the bike action will be frantic - and sideways - as racing for the 450cc and quad bikes take place on Saturday, with the titles still to be settled. The factory-backed teams of Huskvarna, Husaberg, K.T.M., Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha will all be there to do battle with the likes of Mike Wright Racing, Alice Racing and Dave Clarke for the 2005 honours. Barton-on-Humber’s Paul Brimble, Spalding duo Darren Warner and Lee Rudd will be the local hopes going against the other frontrunners such as Rob Cross, Andy Mitchell, Les Noble and Manny Smith. In the Quad bikes, the Yamaha Banshees of Vinnie Jones and Mike Taylor are the ones to watch out for, as is Andy Warren on a Yamaha YFZ450. On Sunday, with a large prize fund up for grabs from some generous sponsors, the Open Class Bikes will fight it out for valuable end of season points, and last opportunities to impress as they try to secure their campaigns for next year. Tim Booth (Newark), Andy Mitchell, Shane Parkin and Paul Haigh are hoping to elbow their way to the coveted title of No.1 UK Super-moto rider for 2005. Watch out for KTM man Ady Smith and Scunthorpe’s Kevin Drayton, who is making a comeback from injury, and Sleaford-based local lads Shaun and Gavin McCarthy. As for something completely different, there is action from the crazy competitors in the Superlites on Sunday; their high-powered Rotax and Honda CB900 Fireblade racing buggies are nothing if not entertaining. Here, the local interest comes in the form of Louth’s James Tointon who, in the Kawasaki ZX9 Drakart, should be worth a wave. Tickets for the meeting cost just £6 per adult per day, with children aged 12 and under admitted free. Parking and paddock access are also free.
