EVERTS CONSISTENT IN CZECH REPUBLIC
01 August 2004 - Yamaha Racing

The fast and hilly circuit of Loket in the Czech Republic played host to round 12 of the 2004 motocross world championship.

Yamaha L&M Motocross Team rider Stefan finished second in both races, resulting in a second overall behind the on-form Mickael Pichon (Honda) who topped the class in both races. Josh Coppins (Honda) completed the podium. JK racing-Yamaha’s Luigi Seguy enjoyed a consistent weekend finishing seventh overall. With four GPs to go seven-time world champion Everts now leads the championship with 527 points, second placed Pichon has 436 points.

Denmark’s Brian Jorgensen (Honda) took the early lead in race one, followed closely by Estonian rider Tanel Leok (Suzuki), Josh Coppins (Honda) and Sven Breugelmans (KTM). Everts missed his start and rounded the first corner only in 13th position.

Pichon resided in sixth place and Everts was down in eighth after the opening lap, but the sheer speed of the two world title holders was about to its mark. By mid race point Pichon had pushed into the lead, demoting his team mate Jorgensen. Coppins still held onto third, Leok was in fourth, but Everts’ war of attrition was about to pay off. Two laps later Everts pushed into fourth, and then second on lap thirteen which he comfortably held onto until the finish. Coppins took third, Jorgensen was fourth and Leok completed the top five.

Josh Coppins took the holeshot in race two, but Everts made no mistake and pounded his YZ-450FM into second place, closely followed by Pichon and Breugelmans. A searing battle commenced between the first three, and Pichon soon pushed past Everts and took off after Coppins. He passed past the Kiwi rider on lap seven and just three laps later Everts also went by. At the chequered flag it was a carbon copy of the race one top three – Pichon, Everts, Coppins. Kevin Strijbos (Suzuki) took third place on the all new factory bike and Luigi Seguy (Yamaha) took fifth. The likeable French rider moves up to 12th in the MX1 standings.

The 13th round of the championship takes place at Namur, Belgium next weekend.

Stefan Everts (Yamaha L&M Motocross Team) – second
“I’m pretty happy with my result here in Loket. Mickael was riding very well this weekend and it just wasn’t possible to catch him. Although my girlfriend Kelly will have our first child anytime now, I was very focused on my racing today and I think I handled the day quite professionally. I’m hoping that Kelly will have the baby before the next GP in Namur next weekend. I think the organisers have done a great job and I’m looking forward to it being the best GP of the year.”
