GHANAIAN SKIER CHOOSES KNOX PROTECTION FOR HIS ATTEMPT TO BE FIRST BLACK AFRICAN AT THE WINTER OLYMPICS
16 October 2005 - Planet Knox Ltd
British impact-protection specialists Planet-Knox are helping a sportsman who is attempting to become first black African ever to compete in the Grand Slalom and downhill skiing races at the next winter Olympics in Turin next February.
Based at Cockermouth in Cumbria, Knox leads the world in making high quality impact protection systems for motorcyclists and is the choice of top British racers including John Reynolds and James Ellison. Many of their customers use their motorcycle armour when skiing or snowboarding and the Company is starting to branch out into these markets. Kwame Nkrumah-Acheampang, nick-named ‘The Snow Leopard’, aims to be the first black African ever to compete in the Grand Slalom and downhill skiing races at the next winter Olympics in February in Turin. The Glasgow-born Ghanaian, is fast closing in on the points for qualification, and is attracting so much attention that Easyjet are sponsoring his efforts. Knox is providing Kwame with a lightweight armoured safety shirt and long johns, capable of absorbing significant energy from an impact without being bulky or restrictive. While Knox welcome Kwame, the Company bids a fond farewell to superbike racer JOHN REYNOLDS, who has announced his retirement from top-level motorcycle racing after a long and highly successful career that included three British Superbike Championship titles. “We started working with John in 2004, when he won the third championship and he was a pleasure to deal with and immensely helpful with product development,” comments Knox MD Geoff Travell. “We wish him well for the future and look forward to seeing him socially around the paddock.” Call 01900 825825 or visit www.planet-knox.com Knox also manufactures the best-selling Cold Killers range of wind-stopping bike-wear.
