FAST FEMALES TAKE ON THE BOYS
14 October 2005 - Dunlop
DUNLOP MOTO 1 isn’t only for the men. Two talented young ladies will be right in there among the action at Mallory Park in Leicestershire on October 15th and 16th
And they will probably be far from being left behind. ANITA-JANE DORAN (25) from Lurgan in Northern Ireland, has been a motocross racer for 11 years, competing as far away as the United States. She is also a great supermoto contestant and took the Grade B1 title two years ago. MARIA CONWAY (20) from Henley-on-Thames rides a Beta in the Ladies’ Cup trials series where she has regularly shown that she is quite a master of the feet-up game. She also rides for Team Giant in downhill mountain races, so she is not held back by lack of desire for top speed. The pair gang up on the men in the five-discipline MOTO 1 which sees them tackling the trials course first. They will then stay right in the thick of it as the action moves to the new-for-2005 motopentathlon where activities include mountain biking, sidecar trials driving, digger driving, quad bike racing and mini moto-crossing. After that, the speeds go up as the duo move to the supermoto on a shortened version of the main Mallory track paired with a short off-road burst. Next comes moto-cross itself and finally the Supersport road races on the full Mallory layout including the fearsome top-speed Gerard’s Bend and the tricky new chicane called Edwina’s. The Shaw’s Hairpin, the Devil’s Elbow and the Bus Stop chicane will mean little rest for the girls as they wrestle their 160mph Honda CBR-RRs surrounded by Italian racing star Frankie Chili and some of Britain’s best racers including Nottingham’s Chris Walker and Craig Jones from Northwich. It’s a first Moto 1 ride for Maria, but Anita-Jane took part in the inaugural event at Donington Park a year ago so will know what to expect! 2004 World Superbike Champion James Toseland may be able to attend Moto 1 on the Sunday. He will be rocking with his band Crash at nearby Beaver’s Bar, London Road, Hinckley, on the Saturday night and an open invitation has been extended to the Moto 1 fraternity to go along. It might yet even end up with Frankie Chili jamming with the band. Moto1 admission cost £15 on Saturday 15th October and £18 on Sunday 18th. A weekend ticket cost £25 reduced to £20 if bought in advance. General information and ticket sales on 01624 640000 or visit www.moto1.org.
