TRIPLE TREAT FOR HAWKS AT DARLEY MOOR
03 October 2005 - Hawk Kawasaki

Hawk Kawasaki delighted fans at the annual Stars of Darley race at Darley Moor, Derbyshire today.

Fielding three riders, regular Hawk teamsters Glen Richards and Dean Thomas were joined by last year’s Stars winner John McGuinness, Hawk Kawasaki made it an all-green podium in both of the ten lap sprint races. Winning both of the Stars of Darley legs, Richards also smashed the lap record, lowering it by over a second. The Australian was all smiles, despite being drenched in champagne by his team-mates.

“That was mega,” He grinned “It’s a real nice little circuit here, and the bike is just superb. I had a real blast, flat out for ten laps without worrying whether the tyre would last or if I needed to plan a strategy for the last few laps. I fluffed the start in the first one though, I was waiting for the lights to go green but everyone else went as soon as the red lights went out. I had to make up a few places in a hurry! I just want to thank everyone at Darley for inviting us to appear here, and to the great crowd that turned out.”

Team-mate Thomas also enjoyed the day at Darley.

”That was fun actually”, he grinned “Normally we’ve got so much to concentrate on, but here it was just a balls out sprint and I loved it. I thought I was going to get Glen for the win in the second race, but he got through the back markers better than me. I figured we’ll wait for this corner and then we’ll both get these guys on the exit and I can get Glen too. Glen obviously thought differently! Still, it’s been a fantastic day out, much better than I thought it would be.”

TT star John McGuinness has a great time reuniting with his old team.

“It was great to be back with the Hawk lads, and back here at Darley”, quoted John “I’ve been coming to Darley for years and its always good fun, but it’s really nice to be back here with Hawk. And we had some top races. I think I’ve taught Glen and Dean how the lights work here at Darley, they were fully tuned in at the start of race one. I came round in the lead and saw P5 on Deano’s board. I figured what’s going on here? Then GR came through and Deano fought past too. I knew I couldn’t hold on to these boys, they’ve been flying all year. I’ve just really enjoyed my weekend and hope we can do it again next year.”

Stuart Hicken summed up his team’s day.
“We’ve had a great day, it’s mega to see my bikes come home 1, 2 and 3 in a meeting that I’ve been coming to for longer than some of my team have been alive! I like supporting places like Darley and the traditional meetings so it was important to me that we came here. To take top honours is nice and it gives us all a boost as we go into the last round of the Bennetts British Superbike championship at Brands next weekend.”
