WOLVERHAMPTON SPEEDWAY
01 August 2004 - British Speedway Promoters Association

WOLVERHAMPTON have a rare Monday night off as the nation gets behind Team Great Britain in the launch of the World Cup tournament at Eastbourne.

The next Monmore Green meeting is on Monday August 9 when Belle Vue are the visitors. Great Britain face Sweden, Czech Republic and Hungary with the winners going straight through to the final at Poole next Saturday. There is, however, a second chance for the teams who finish second and third at Arlington as they will go through to the race-off at Poole on Thursday. British boss Neil Middleditch said: ''This week is going to be fantastic. They have cut down the number of teams this year so the competition to make the final will be even tougher. Nearly all of the riders competing have had experience at both Eastbourne and Poole so I feel track advantage if any is down to a minimum. ''The squad I have assembled for the competition I feel are the boys for the job. ''It is well known the bad luck I have had with injuries over the past few World Cups but hopefully 2004 will be the year when we can steer clear of that jinx and lift the trophy.''
