BRITISH SPEEDWAY NEWS AND FIXTURES 30.7.04
30 July 2004 - British Speedway Promoters Association

JOE Screen believes Great Britain have what it takes to win the World Cup next week.

The in-form Belle Vue man won a late call-up to the British squad after an impressive run of scores. He said: ''It was a surprise call-up but I''m ready to do my job. I believe we have the riders who can match the top teams and go on and win the World Cup. It would be great.''

BRITISH boss Neil Middleditch is backing his side to automatically qualify for the World Cup Final from their first event. Middleditch''s men face Sweden, Poland and Hungary at Eastbourne on Monday with the winners going straight through to Poole on August 7. He said: ''Sweden are the holders so we know how hard it''s going to be, but on our day we believe we can win the meeting.''
