TOMMY AND OLLIE DEPART DONINGTON DISAPPOINTED

After what has been a truly remarkable season by anyone’s standards, Etchilhampton near Devizes in Wiltshire brothers Tommy and Ollie Bridewell left the penultimate round of the 2005 Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Donington today disappointed after missing out in their respective races

Following a crash during timed qualifying on Saturday, 19 year old Ollie could only manage to place the Vivaldi Kawasaki onto row four of the grid and despite a brave effort in the Metzeler Racetec National Superstock Championship race, he could climb no higher than twelfth position for the second meeting in succession:

“I’m going to take a long, hard look at myself and how we prepare as there is something not right” said Ollie. “I know I’m capable of qualifying on pole position and winning races yet it’s not happening and I need to find out why. I’m going to make some big changes for Brands in two weeks time and hope to end the season on a positive note” concluded Ollie who remains in fifth in the series standings.

Meanwhile, younger brother Tommy was also left rueing his luck after sliding out of contention in the Virgin Mobile Cup race after another strong showing in the early stages. The 17 year old qualified on row two of the grid and was looking good aboard the Wayside Racing Yamaha before crashing out on lap six and with it, ending his hopes of winning the championship and the prized superbike ride that went with it:

“I don’t really know what happened” said Tommy. “The back end just came round on me for no reason and the next thing I knew I was sliding along. I held onto the bars and tried to restart but it was pointless and I’m disappointed that the chance of winning the title has now gone” said the teenager.

Wayside Racing team owner Marcus Bridewell remained upbeat despite his two sons’ disappointment:

“We’ve had our fair share of good days and we know a day like today would come along at some point but that’s racing. It will feel a little weird as for the first time in six race meetings; we won’t have a trophy to take home in the truck with us!

The final rounds of the respective championships take place at Brands Hatch in Kent in two weeks time with both riders hoping to end the season with more silverware.
