SHEFFIELD SPEEDWAY
30 July 2004 - British Speedway Promoters Association

SHEFFIELD Pirtek Tigers were given a real scare by Reading but pulled through 51-45 in their latest Premier League match at Owlerton.

Ricky Ashworth (17) and guest Simon Stead (16+1) did the bulk of the scoring for the home side who are unbeaten at Owlerton in league action since 1998. Slovenian sensation Matej Zagar was the top Reading rider with 14+1 and this included four-points when his points counted for double as a tactical ride in Heat 11. Guest Garry Stead, in for injured skipper Phil Morris, scored 13 and Andrew Appleton scored 12+2 which included four-points when he passed both Ben Wilson and Richard Hall from a 15-metre handicap as a golden double tactical sub in Heat 12. The 7-1 to Reading pulled the scores back to 41-38 to Sheffield just as it seemed they were comfortable. The scores were level on aggregate at 96-96 after 15 races and Zagar got the better of Ricky Ashworth in the run-off for the aggregate bonus point.
