WEST RETIRES FROM MALAYSIAN GRAND PRIX
25 September 2005 - KTM-Sportmotorcycles AG
Red Bull KTM rider Anthony West did not finish today’s Malaysian Grand PrIx run in heat wave conditions at the Sepang Circuit.
After making a brilliant start from 17th on the grid West had moved into tenth place on lap five when his bike stopped with mechanical problems on lap six and he retired. Despite his disappointing qualifying position West again showed his speed as a racer and was involved in tight battle for ninth with Aprilia rider Sylvan Guintoli and Roberto Locatelli before he was forced out. The race was won by Australian rider Casey Stoner with world championship leader Dani Pedrosa crashing out on lap two. Anthony West #14 - DNF - Championship : 15th/ 30 points “I passed six riders on lap one and I was trying to stay ahead of Guintoli when the motor felt like it just locked up on lap six. It’s frustrating because I had a chance of the top ten even though we still need to Veloce some more top speed with the new 250. I hope things get better from here.” Harald Bartol -Technical and Managing Director “I have not had a chance to check what happened but Anthony said the engine locked up. He had made a good start but these these things happen in racing.”
