RYE HOUSE are the new Premier League champions after Berwick''s 48-41 defeat at Sheffield.
The Rockets will be presented with the trophy at their home meeting with Somerset on October 1 and they are still in contention for the Knockout Cup and Young Shield. Jubilant Rye House promoter Len Silver said: ''We''re all totally overjoyed at the team''s success and I''m really thrilled for them and for our very loyal fans.'' (SPEEDWAY 2) WORLD Champion Tony Rickardsson has announced his retirement at the end of next season. He said: ''This is not a decision that has come overnight. Speedway has been a big part of my life for a very long time. ''I owe a lot to this sport and there have been many memorable moments that will always stay with me. Now it is time for me to proceed.''
