Craven Shield: OXFORD 48 WOLVES 42

PARRYS International Wolves still have a good chance of making progress in the Craven Shield, although they were beaten by six points at Cowley on Monday. Wolves made a fine start when reserves Krzysztof Pecyna and Ronnie Correy took maximum points from Heat 2, and another 5-1 in Heat 7 from Steve Johnston and Freddie Lindgren took them six points clear. At that stage an away win looked a distinct possibility, but the Silver Machine hit back with 5-1s in Heats 11 and 12 to take control. Wolves guest Peter Karlsson took a win with a fast start in Heat 13 but David Howe fell having been edged out by Greg Hancock, and the Silver Machine took full advantage in the next race to secure their win, Billy Hamill passing Lindgren for the three points and Travis McGowan thwarting Wolves with third place. Karlsson, who also guests at Swindon on Thursday, won again in the last race ahead of Hancock and Hamill, and Wolves will hope that the narrowness of the defeat will enable them to take the bonus pont when the sides meet again next Monday - and depending on the other results, that could be enough for them to progress.

OXFORD: Greg Hancock 12, Billy Hamill 11+1, Travis McGowan 10+1, Niels-Kristian Iversen 8+1, Freddie Eriksson 4+2, Henka Gustafsson 2+1, Craig Branney 1.

WOLVES: Peter Karlsson 11+1, David Howe 8, Fredrik Lindgren 7, Steve Johnston 5+2, Magnus Karlsson 5, Ronnie Correy 3+1, Krzysztof Pecyna 3.
