BREUGELMANS TOASTS FIRST WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
18 September 2005 - KTM-Sportmotorcycles AG

Factory Red Bull KTM rider Sven Breugelmans has won the 2005 MX3 World Championship after following home team-mates Yves Demaria and Julien Bill at Sevlievo for the Grand Prix of Bulgaria today.

The Belgian entered the event with a twenty point lead over Bill and twenty-six points over Demaria. He qualified third and then scored two third positions to confirm his maiden title success.

A decent crowd flocked to the spectacular and fast Bulgarian venue in good weather conditions to see the culmination of the MX3 series in what has been very much a three-way KTM tussle for the crown.

Contention for podium places was once more between Demaria, Bill and Breugelmans (the three even followed each other in qualification with Demaria registering the quickest lap).

In the first moto Bill led the majority of the race before being swamped by Demaria who eased ahead for his fifth consecutive victory. The Frenchman did all he could to defend his crown to the last possible minute and fronted the pack from the first lap to the final corner, again ahead of Bill. Demaria and the youngster from Switzerland tied on points for the runner-up position in the Championship but Demaria earned the number two plate courtesy of his greater number of wins.

“I am happy not just because we have won the title again this year but because we placed all three of our riders in the top positions; it has been a good season,” said Team Manager Jacky Martens. “Bill is disappointed to be third but I reminded him that his goal for this year was the top five so he did better than we all expected. I feel that both Sven and Julien learnt a lot from Yves because there was a gap between riders at the start of the Championship but it had narrowed significantly by the end.”

“Today I took it easy and did not ride in a risky way at all,” said Breugelmans. “I liked track and the conditions were good for racing; maybe it was a little bit too hot! I was mindful of the mistakes I made in Austria so I had a plan just to go out and get the points needed for the Championship. It was great to see some Belgian fans cheering me on and we will celebrate with a party tonight! At the moment it still hasn’t sunk in that I am a World Champion.”
