DISTANCE MAKES THE HEART GROW FONDER
It pays to go the extra mile for good service and when it comes to his beloved Harley-Davidson Mark Thomas is prepared to go the distance – 750 miles to be exact! The loyal 53-year-old father-of-two recently travelled from his new home in Toulouse, France, back to Chester Harley-Davidson in Cheshire just to have to his motorcycle serviced by his old dealership. Semi-retired Mark moved to France from his Nottingham home in May, but was so impressed by the friendly professional service he received from the dealership, based in Cedab Road, Ellesmere Port, he was determined he and his Centenary Softail Deuce would remain customers. “I’ve always been impressed by the good, friendly service provided by Kirk and his team and I didn’t want to lose that on moving,” said Mark. “Once you find service like that you are prepared to travel to keep it.” For many the 1,500-mile round trip may seem a little excessive to keep his Harley-Davidson in top condition, but for Mark it’s just another little adventure to add to many miles already clocked up. “A short ride for me is 100 miles,” he said. “I love riding so this is a great trip. I intend to keep coming over for my major services, I want to be the first person to get 100,000 miles on a centenary Softail Deuce and I’m pretty sure it’ll be possible as long as the team at Chester Harley-Davidson are servicing the bike.” Kirk Herbert, dealer principal and director of Chester Harley-Davidson, said: “It is quite extraordinary how far Mark will travel but we are very proud of that fact. “The service we offer is to treat people in the way that you’d want to be treated yourself and go that extra mile for them. It obviously works because I have customers who have kept coming back for years and are prepared to travel to do so.” Chester Harley-Davidson opened as a specialist service centre a year ago and recently opened a temporary show room selling the latest Harley-Davidson and Buell motorcycles.
