BRANDS HATCH SET FOR ACTION ON TWO AND FOUR WHEELS THIS WEEKEND
06 September 2005 - MotorSport Vision

750 Motor Club and New Era provide racing for cars and bikes

Both cars and bikes will be in action at Brands Hatch this weekend, with the 750 Motor Club running races on Saturday (September 10) and the New Era Motorcycle Club on Sunday (September 11). The 750 Motor Club offers racing in a variety of cars, from single-seaters to the low cost Stock Hatch series.

For single-seater car race fans, the Formula Vee Championship will produce plenty of close action around the Indy circuit. Paul Smith, from just across the Thames in Grays, won at Mondello Park in June and will be hoping to build on sixth place in the championship. He was second last time out at Silverstone, which proves that the pace is certainly there. Another competitor who could be near the front is Tunbridge Wells driver Fergus Dalton Jnr, who was also on the podium at Mondello.

Dave Wright (Sittingbourne) and Jason Nind (Kemsley) are local contenders in the Stock Hatch Championship and, although Nind has been the most consistent so far this year in his Fiesta XR2, Wright has had the best result in his Peugeot 205 GTi.

The New Era Superclub series has reached crunch time, and just two races this Sunday and another two at Cadwell Park in October will settle the five championships still to be resolved.

Simon Nuttall looked to have a good chance of wrapping up the Sound of Thunder title at the last meeting, but Mark Hoogenboom pulled out his best performance ever and took four race wins over the weekend to slash Nuttall’s lead by 40 points, to just 17. With 50 points to be won at Brands Hatch alone, there’s still everything to play for.

In the Pro-Bike Open class, Peter Baker increased his lead over arch-rival Jonathan Lester last time out from seven to 28, but Lester’s Yamaha should be more competitive on the turns of Brands Hatch than the straights of Snetterton, and he has not given up yet.

In 250s, Andy Hyde did even better at Snetterton, turning a 21 point deficit into a 12 point advantage over Darrell Higgins, and the battle between the two riders is expected to be a close one. If Higgins has the same trouble as he had in Norfolk, he may have to work his way through the pack after the start.

Tickets for each day at Brands Hatch cost £12 per person, with children aged 12 and under admitted free. Parking and paddock access is also free.
