PROBLEMS FOR ALBERT CABESTANY IN GERMANY, BUT HE CONTINUES TO BATTLE FOR THE SUB CHAMPION SPOT
05 September 2005 - Sherco
Double victory for Sherco in the 125cc Youth Cup, by Matteo Grattarola and Loris Gubian
The 2005 GP of Germany has shown itself to be both decisive and one of the most complicated tests of the year. The trial was held in an area that was extremely slippery with many roots and humid rocks. Albert Cabestany found little to his favour at this event including the strictness of the judges. On Saturday he was able to close the gap to within one point of Takahisa Fujinami; he was also one point ahead of Doug Lampkin. Sunday proved to be a different story. The grounds were a bit drier and it looked like it was going to be a good day for Albert as he had a very good first loop and was in second place, however a crash in section eight caused him to loose his form and he ended the day in sixth place, he is now in forth place in the overall standings. The battle for the Sub Champion position is still very tight and within his reach. Fujinami is in second place and Lampkin is in third place, Albert is two points behind Lampkin and six behind Fujinami. With one event remaining the GP of Belgium, the battle for the second spot will be intense. Things went a lot better for the Sherco riders in the 125 Youth Cup, the blue riders dominated the German event, with a victory by Matteo Grattarola on the first day and by Loris Gubian on the second which reaffirms them in second and third place in the provisional standings Albert Cabestany: ''This was a very damaging trial; Saturday was not too bad as I was able to close the gap on second place. Sunday things seemed to be going better as I was able to finish the first loop in second place, but in section eight of the second loop my hand came off of the handlebar and I suffered a crash that had me totally disoriented for the rest of the day. Now we have one trial to finalize the standings and I will try to do the very best that I possibly can.'' 1st Day Final Classification Points 1 Adam Raga (Gas Gas) 37 2 Marc Freixa (Montesa) 38 3 Doug Lampkin (Montesa) 51 4 Jeroni Fajardo (Gas Gas) 54 5 Albert Cabestany (Sherco) 58 2nd Day Final Classification Points 1 Adam Raga (Gas Gas) 17 2 Toni Bou (Beta) 26 3 Takahisa Fujinami (Honda) 31 4 Doug Lampkin (Montesa) 37 5 Albert Cabestany (Sherco) 37 Provisional Classification Points 1 Adam Raga (Gas Gas) 235 2 Takahisa Fujinami (Honda) 205 3 Doug Lampkin (Montesa) 201 4 Albert Cabestany (Sherco) 199 5 Toni Bou (Beta) 162 Date Outdoor 17/04/2005 Portugal (Pampilhosa da Serra) 24/04/2005 Spain (Tarragona) 22/05/2005 Japan (Motegi) 05/06/2005 USA (Duluth) 19/06/2005 Andorra Date Outdoor 26/06/2005 France (Alés) 10/07/2005 Italia (Valblondione) 31/07/2005 England (Hawkstone Park) 03/09/2005 Germany (Gefrees) 18/09/2005 Belgium (Spa-Francorchamps)
