BIKESURE: THE SHORT WAY ROUND TO ADVENTURE INSURANCE
15 September 2005 - Bikesure
Sales of adventure bikes are on the increase. Motorbike insurance specialist Bikesure says it has seen a significant demand from people needing insurance for bikes like the Triumph Tiger and BMW R1150GS.
Now Bikesure has launched a policy to meet the specific needs of the Adventure Biker. It includes extended cover overseas and a variety of options such as breakdown, legal and personal accident cover. Perhaps most important, the policy is available at a reasonable cost! The interest has been fuelled by stars like Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman, who generated massive amounts of publicity for their ‘Long Way Round’ world ride in 2004. True, they endured a certain amount of hardship, but their media caravan – including cameraman and support vehicles – ensured a lot more back-up than most adventure bikers get. Meanwhile their roster of sponsors – for everything from helmets to Kendal mint cake - conspicuously lacked someone offering insurance. Until now, the major problem for adventure bikers setting out on a long ride has been the high cost of insurance. As Bikesure’s Robert Balls points out, “Most insurers consider them a severe risk.” But, he adds, Bikesure, with its ‘free thinking insurance’ attitude, tends to look at the bigger picture, which allows the company to offer lower rates. “For example, lone bikers, a long way from home, rely totally on their bike – so they are hardly likely to drive dangerously. Rather, they’re going to take the best possible care of it.” Bikesure’s Adventure Biking policyholders don’t have to restrict their adventure to the UK. The company gives up to three months per year cover throughout the rest of the EC and can also cover those venturing to some countries outside Europe including Morocco and Turkey, two of the most popular adventure biking destinations.
Bikesure has a huge range of specialist policies for the motorcycle enthusiast, including schemes for trikes and quads.
