CORSER FRUSTRATED AT ASSEN
04 September 2005 - Suzuki Racing

Team Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra rider Troy Corser continues to hold a healthy lead in the World Superbike Championship despite a missing the podium for the first time this season at today''s ninth round at Assen in Holland.

The Australian suffered with wheelspin problems that dogged him throughout practice and during today''s two races and that prevented him from putting his GSX-R1000 on the podium, although he still managed to pick up a pair of fourth places and takes an 86-point lead to the next round.

Team mate Yukio Kagayama struggled a little from set-up problems in the first race and rear-end chatter in the second and ended up sixth in race one and 11th in race two.

Young Aussie Chris Vermeulen won both 16-lappers today, but he was made to fight hard for both of them with Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha) and James Toseland (Ducati). Toseland took runner-up spot in the first race with Haga third, but the positions were reversed in race two.

Troy Corser - Race 1: 4th, Race 2: 4th:

''Today was a bit frustrating really, but I suppose if you had to have an off weekend, this one was not too bad. All weekend we''ve had problems with wheelspin and yesterday afternoon we changed an engine and that affected the set-up of the bike. Perhaps we lost our way a little then, but in the morning warm-up today things were pretty good, so we thought we''d be ok. But in both races I had problems with wheelspin and I couldn''t get on the gas unless the bike was more or less upright. That cost me a lot of time each lap - enough for me not to be able to stay with the leaders. I pushed the front as hard as I''ve ever pushed it - any more and I would''ve crashed - but at least we got a couple of fourths. I would have liked to have left Assen with a few more points in the bag but that''s the way it goes sometimes.''

Yukio Kagayama - Race 1: 6th, Race 2: 11th:

This is not how I planned the weekend! Before today, I believed that a podium or two was possible, so I am not so happy. In race one, it took me five laps to find my rhythm, but by then the front group had gone. My bike''s balance was not perfect, but I think I lapped as fast as the leaders in the second part of the race, but it was too late. I had big problems in the second race with rear end chatter after five laps. I had started well in third and was fighting hard, but when the chattering started I couldn''t keep my position. In the end, all I could do was keep going and bring my bike home.''

Dutch Wild Card rider Jurgen Van Den Goorbergh scored 20th and 17th places on a one-off ride aboard a British Superbike Championship Rizla Suzuki GSX-R1000.

WORLD SUPERSPORT:

Team Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra rider Javi Fores finishedt he ninth round of the 2005 Supersport World Championship in 10th position after a race-long battle involving four or five riders.

Frenchman Fabien Foret (Honda) won the race after a terrific fight with fellow countryman Sebastien Charpentier (Honda) with Michel Fabrizio (Honda) third.

Charpentier''s runner-up spot though was enough to take the title as his nearest challenger is 83 points adrift with just three races remaining.

Javi Fores - 10th:

''I am bit disappointed because with one lap to go I was in eighth place and I think that would''ve been a good result today. I had a bike fight with Chambon (Honda) and Lauslehto (Honda) but, on the last lap, I had to brake too hard to stay ahead of them and they were able to slip past. But, considering this was my first time at Assen, I am not unhappy with the result.''

Supersport Results: 1 Foret (F-Honda), 2 Charpentier (F-Honda), 3 Fabrizio (I-Honda), 4 Curtain (Aus-Yamaha), 5 Fujiwara (J-Honda), 6 Harms (Den-Honda), 7 Parkes (Aus-Yamaha), 8 Chambon (F-Honda), 9 Lauslehto (SF-Honda), 10 Javi Fores (E-Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra).

Championship Points: 1 Charpentier 210, 2 Fujiwara 127, 3 Curtain 122, 4 Foret 110, 5 Fabrizio 98, 6 Chambon 76, 7 Parkes 69, 8 Javi Fores (E-Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra) 58, 9 Nannelli 56, 10 Lauslehto 49.

SUPERSTOCK 600:

Team Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra rider Xavi Simeon took fourth place at Assen today and was close to a podium position.

He was involved in a tremendous scrap with Andrea Antonelli (Kawasaki) and Garcia Forner (Honda) in the last few laps but could not find a way past.

Claudio Corti (Yamaha) won the nine-lap race by a comfortable margin and now leads the championship by 51 points with three races left.

Xavi Fores - 4th:

''I like Assen a lot and that was good fun today. I made a good start and then had a good fight with Antonelli and Forner and I thought I could pass both of them for third place, but I ran a bit wide on the last lap and they both dived though. After that I couldn''t overtake them again and so I ended fourth. Maybe if I had more experience, I could have taken third today but I am determined to get a podium in the next round.''

Superstock 600 Results: 1 Corti (I-Yamaha), 2 Forner (E-Honda), 3 Antonelli (I-Kawasaki), 4 Xavi Simeon (B-Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra), 5 Ter Braake (NL-Honda), 6 Rivas Fernandez (E-Honda).

Championship Points: 1 Corti 161, 2 Tiberio 110, 3 Canepa 85, 4 Berger 60, 5 Xavi Simeon (Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra) 53, 6 Antonelli 50.

SUPERSTOCK 1000:

Team Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra rider Riccardo Chiarello fought the pain barrier throughout today''s 11-lap Superstock FIM Cup race and brought his GSX-R1000 home in 10th place.

The effort of hustling his bike round the demanding 5.997 kilometre circuit reopened a couple of old fractures in his arm and by the end of the race his arm was swollen and blue.

Alessandro Polita (Suzuki) won the race after a dramatic last lap incident in the final chicane. Craig Coxhell (Suzuki) overtook race-long leader Kenan Sofuoglu (Yamaha) going into the chicane, but then crashed right in front of him. Sofuoglu took avoiding action but was forced off the track and by the time he recovered, Polita and Vankeymeulen (Yamaha) had sneaked though to claim first and second places.

Riccardo Chiarello - 10th:

''That was a very painful race for me and at the end I don''t think I could''ve done another lap because the pain was so great. My arm was very swollen and when I went to the Clinica Mobile they took some X-rays which showed that I''d opened up a couple of old fractures. The start of the race was qui te good but the pain was really bad after a few laps. I did not want to pull in so I just kept going and tried to ignore it. I will go back to Italy and get some laser treatment and hopefully I will be in better condition for next weekend''s race.''

Superstock 1000 Results: 1 Polita (I-Suzuki), 2 Vankeymeulen (NL-Yamaha), 3 Sofuoglu (Tut-Yamaha), 4 Roccoli (I-Yamaha), 5 Badovini (I-MV), 6 Rocamora (I-Suzuki), 10 Riccardo Chiarello (I-Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra).

Championship Points: 1 Sofuoglu 127, 2 Roccoli 103, 3 Vankeymeulen 102, 4 Coxhell 98, 5 Polita 77, 6 Riccardo Chiarello (Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra) 66.
