SPEEDWAY NEWS AND FIXTURES
03 September 2005 - British Speedway Promoters Association
COVENTRY and Peterborough are matching each other almost point for point in the race for the crucial second place in the Elite League.
The Bees won their local derby with Wolverhampton 48-41 whilst the Panthers defeated Poole 48-42, leaving both teams on 53 match points. Coventry are in front by just 13 race points, with two away matches in hand which both take place this weekend. WOLVERHAMPTON''S Fredrik Lindgren stole the show at Coventry on Friday night with a brilliant 15-point maximum. The in-form young Swede reeled off five straight wins on the Brandon circuit for his first-ever full house in the Elite League. Lindgren said: ''Coventry is a tough place to come to, but my gating was really good which was the main thing. I''m delighted with the maximum.'' STOKE have snapped up David Meldrum on loan from Berwick, and the 24-year old will make his debut against Newcastle on Saturday. The Potters have moved quickly after seeing Adam Allott ruled out for the rest of the season due to a broken shoulder blade. Meldrum said: ''This is an opportunity for me to show what I can do and it''s up to me to take the chance.''
