READING have been hit by the loss of skipper Danny Bird for the rest of the season.

Bird, just back after a broken leg, crashed at Exeter on Monday and sustained a cracked knee and dislocated elbow and shoulder. Racers promoter Pat Bliss said: ''It is heart-breaking, both for Reading and for Danny, that after such a short comeback, he is now out for the remainder of the season.''

OXFORD have agreed terms with Freddie Eriksson who makes his debut inb the home clash with Wolverhampton on Thursday. The former King''s Lynn and Ipswich man has been keen to return to British racing after missing the last two seasons. Silver Machine boss Nigel Wagstaff said: ''Everything is agreed with Freddie and I''m certain he can give us added strength in the closing stages of the season.''
