TOM AND OLLIE BOTH ON THE PODIUM AGAIN AT CADWELL
30 August 2005 - Wayside Racing
Just a week after securing their historic double BSB podium, brothers Tommy and Ollie Bridewell, from Etchilhampton near Devizes in Wiltshire, continued where they left off at Silverstone with another pair of rostrum finishes at round ten of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship held at Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire on bank holiday Monday.
In front of a massive crowd bordering on 40,000, 17 year old Tommy finished second in the Virgin Mobile Cup race following the decision to stop the race as spots of rain started to fall. The winner of two of the last three races had been leading for much of the race but had dropped back to second place as the riders crossed the line on lap eight. Three-quarters of a lap later, he was back in front and gunning for victory number three when out came the red flags much to his disappointment: “I’m not at all happy as I felt I could have won the race had it gone the distance. It was about the only time I wasn’t leading across the line and that’s when the results were declared but that’s the way it goes sometimes. I just hope those five points don’t cost me this championship” said a disappointed Tommy who now lies in sixth place in the standings. Meanwhile, elder brother Ollie secured his third successive podium placing when he brought the 1000cc Vivaldi Kawasaki home in third place in the Metzeler Racetec National Superstock Championship to score another rostrum placing of the season for the ambitious Vivaldi Racing Team. The 19 year old overcame a crash during qualifying and a number of slides early on in the race before settling down and homing in on the two leaders. Ollie reeled them in and was poised to attack on the final lap but in the end had to settle for third place and with it, consolidated his fifth position in the series. “It was so hot out there that the tyres were really sliding around and I couldn’t get the grip I was looking for so I had to rethink my strategy. It took me a few laps but once I got in a rhythm, I knew I could run their pace and gradually closed the gap. I know I’ve got a win in me so hopefully, we can get on the top step at Oulton” said Ollie afterwards. Both Tommy and Ollie will next be in action in two week’s time when the BSB series visits Oulton Park over the weekend of September 10th and 11th.
