WOLVERHAMPTON SPEESDWAY
29 August 2005 - British Speedway Promoters Association
WOLVERHAMPTON produced one of their most impressive displays of the season to claim maximum points from title hopefuls Poole with a 54-42 win on Monday.
Greg Hancock, so often a thorn in Wolverhampton''s side down the years, proved to be s superb guest as he topped the scorechart for the homr side along with talented Swedish youngster Freddie Lindgren on 12. The meeting produced some excellent racing for a bumper Bank Holiday crowd and the Sky Sports cameras. Poole tried to keep it tight but they could find no answer to a determined Wolves performance. Lindgren was great value for his score, going from third to first in his opening ride and he also pulled off a spectacular switch of line to pass Krzysztof Kasprzak and win Heat 6. Steve Johnston, who made his traditional poor start to the meeting with two last places, joined the impressive David Howe for a 5-1 in Heat 9 with both Wolves men passing Kasprzak in some style. Pirates boss Neil Middleditch used Antonio Lindback as a tactical substitute in Heat 12 off 15 metres and he was clearly allowed through by colleague Edward Kennett - but the handicap proved too much to catch Johnston and Ronnie Correy. Bjarne Pedersen secured maximum points from his tactcial ride in Heat 13 to keep Poole''s hopes of the aggregate bonus point alive. And when Antonio Lindback passed Magnus Karlsson in the penultimate race Poole went into Heat 15 a point ahead on aggregate. Step forward messrs Hancock and Lindgren. Hancock, so often the Monmore villan in his Cradley and Coventry days, made a dream start and pulled well clear and often looked behind for Lindgren. He didn''t need to as Lindgren looked after himself very nicely to brish aside Pedersen to secure maximum points for a happy home side. WOLVES: Greg Hancock 12+2, Freddie Lindgren 12+1, David Howe 10+1, Ronnie Correy 9+2, Magnus Karlsson 6, Steve Johnston 5+1, Krzysztof Pecyna 0. POOLE: Bjarne Pedersen 12+1, Edward Kennett 11, Antonio Lindback 10+1, Matej Ferjan 4+2, Krzysztof Kasprzak 3, Tomasz Suchanek 1+1, Ryan Sullivan 1.
