CRASH HAMPERS MASON’S BI
28 August 2005 - Stobart Honda

Stobart Honda rider Gary Mason ended up thirteenth after a hectic second qualifying session following on a high speed crash earlier in the day at round ten of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Cadwell Park today.

The 26 year old Lichfield rider was upholding the sole honour for the VK, Vent Axia and The Mob backed Stobart Honda team following the withdrawal of Michael Laverty who was ruled unfit following his crash at Silverstone a week ago.

However whilst well placed in the top eight during this morning’s first session, Mason crashed at the high speed Charlies section and was fortunate to get away without serious injury.

The team worked wonders to get the machine repaired but a niggling knee injury meant that Mason ended up thirteenth fastest.

“I was finding it hard to change from left to right with my swollen knee, but I’ll have a good soak tonight and hopefully I’ll be fine for tomorrow. The bike feels good and you can always push harder in the race so I’m hoping I’ll be OK tomorrow” said Mason.

Team owner Paul Bird made light of the situation following on his team’s recent run of bad luck. “What with Jeremy being absent and Michael having to withdraw yesterday, I thought when Gary crashed we would be the only Superbike team without any riders! But the good news was that Gary could take part in the second session and ended up on the fourth row of the grid which all things considered is pretty good.”
