28 August 2005 - British Speedway Promoters Association
FORMER world champion Greg Hancock is Wolverhampton''s star guest for their Elite League clash with title hopefuls Poole at Monmore on Monday (7.30).
Hancock, who won the sport''s ultimate prize in 1997, is widely regarded as a Monmore Green expert after proving to be a thorn in the side of Wolves many times over the past 15-years. The Californian started his British career with the now defunct Cradley Heathens, Wolverhampton''s closest rivals, and has since moved on to Coventry and now Oxford. He stands in for injured Wolves favourite Mikael Max who continues to recuperate from a broken thigh back home in Sweden. Poole need the points to keep alive their hopes of a top two finish and a home semi-final in the Elite League play-offs. Wolverhampton promoter Chris Van Straaten said: ''This is arguably Poole''s biggest meeting of the season and we won''t be doing them any favours!'' The 15 Elite League races will then be followed by eight races of Academy League action featuring the top teenagers in the country to complete a bumper Bank Holiday for supporters. WOLVERHAMPTON: Freddie Lindgren, Krzysztof Pecyna, Steve Johnston, David Howe, Greg Hancock, Magnus Karlsson, Ronnie Correy. POOLE: Bjarne Pedersen, Matej Ferjan, Ryan Sullivan, Antonio Lindback, Krzysztof Kasprzak, Tomasz Suchanek, Edward Kennett.
