RAMON ON THE PACE IN ENGLAND
27 August 2005 - KTM-Sportmotorcycles AG
Red Bull KTM rider Steve Ramon posted the second quickest lap-time today at a hot and sunny Gore Basin circuit for the English Grand Prix the fifteenth round of the 2005 FIM Motocross World Championships.
The visit to the Isle of Wight sees the World Series firmly entering its final phases with trips to Holland and Ireland taking place in the next three weeks to wrap up the international season before the Motocross of Nations at Ernee, France on September 24th/25th. Ramon was leading the MX1 Timed Practice until the final minute when Honda’s Mickael Pichon flashed through with an effort almost half of a second faster to secure his eleventh pole position of the season. The Belgian’s team-mate Ben Townley was also fast at the course where he recorded a confident victory last season in the MX2 class and placed 6th. Kenneth Gundersen was making his first ever visit to the Arreton downs and continues to improve his speed after missing more than a year of World Championship racing. In the MX2 class 2004 runner-up Tyla Rattray made a confident return to action after breaking his knee ligaments back in May and grabbed 2nd position in the first qualification heat behind Christophe Pourcel. The South African eased past Carl Nunn at mid-race distance. The Briton, who was suffering a little with arm-pump, claimed 3rd at the venue where he scored a victory in the British Championships almost a year ago, and was twenty seconds ahead of David Philippaerts who crossed the finish line in 5th. Marc de Reuver was relegated to 4th position by a charging Anthony Boissiere in the second sprint. More excellent weather conditions are predicted for tomorrow and the majority of the riders were enjoying the well-prepared surface that afforded several lines and a lot of air-time.
