ANTHONY WEST TO START FROM SIXTH ROW IN BRNO
27 August 2005 - KTM-Sportmotorcycles AG

Red Bull KTM rider will start from twenty-third position, sixth row, in tomorrow’s Czech Republic Grand Prix at Brno.

The fast, 5.4 km Brno circuit is proving a tough challenge for West and the KTM team during this early test and development period of the new 250cc grand prix bike.

The Czech GP will be just the third race for the KTM 250 which is being developed for a full scale assault on next year’s world championship.

Again during today’s two hours of practice and qualifying KTM technicians worked through a range of chassis and engine set-ups with West frustrated that the could not explore the full performance potential of the bike.

Although West improved his Friday qualifying time by 0.8s he faces a huge task in tomorrow’s race starting from the sixth row of the grid.

Weather for final qualifying was again warm and sunny.

Anthony West #14 - 23rd - 2’05.621

“The main problem is getting the bike to steer through the corners, I haven’t got much front end feel or tyre side grip. There are a lot of long, fast corners here and it feels like I’m going to lose the front. This is a long fast track, a lot different from Donington and the Sachsenring, so we are learning a lot about the bike.”

Harald Bartol - Technical and Managing Director

“We are still in a test stage with the 250 and we are doing things now that normally you would do during pre-season testing, and this is only our third race weekend. No doubt we can improve the bike but Anthony hasn’t done much racing this year and he also needs to do more laps and understand the bike and get more feedback.”
