25 August 2005 - Clear Channel Entertainment
Stewart, Carmichael and Reed to Headline U.S. Open on NBC
Clear Channel Entertainment’s Motor Sports division announced today that Kawasaki’s James Stewart, of Haines City, Fla., will race in his first U.S. Open as a professional in Open Division, October 7&8 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. The showdown will be broadcast on NBC October 23 at 3:30 p.m. EST. Stewart, who has two 125cc Regional AMA Supercross Series championships as well as two 125cc AMA Motocross National championships to his name, has not raced at the prestigious U.S. Open since 1999 when he won the 85cc Mini division. The 19-year old made his 250cc début in the AMA Supercross Series this year, winning three main events and leading 66 laps. Stewart closed out his supercross season with the confidence that he could run with top ranked riders Ricky Carmichael and Chad Reed and looks poised to make a run at the 2005 U.S. Open $100,000 winner’s check. With former two-time U.S. Open winners Carmichael and Reed, respectively, this year’s race will rival the excitement of the 2005 AMA Supercross Series. The intimate seating at the MGM Grand Garden Arena combined with a tight and technical track, gives fans a front-and-center view of one of the world’s most anticipated races. ''The U.S. Open is a fun race, and it''s the only race that you can leave as a champion in one weekend,” said Stewart. “Clear Channel always has some cool stuff going on and I am excited to be a part of it.'' Fans can get up to speed on all of the latest U.S. Open news on the re-vamped www.ussx.com. The eighth-annual U.S. Open, which will broadcast nationally on NBC October 23 at 3:30 EST for the second consecutive season, features the world’s top motocross racers competing for the world’s largest single race purse. Four-time supercross champion and two-time U.S. Open champion Ricky Carmichael (Suzuki), two-time defending U.S. Open champion Chad Reed (Yamaha) and former 125 Western Regional AMA Supercross Series champion Kevin Windham (Honda) are confirmed to race. Tickets for the 2005 U.S. Open are on-sale now and available through www.ticketmaster.com, by calling 702-474-4000, or at the MGM Grand Garden Arena box office.
