DOUBLE TAKE
25 August 2005 - Honda Racing
Visitors to the remaining rounds of the 2005 British Superbike Championship could be forgiven for thinking that Honda-Racing.co.uk rider Karl Harris has taken a trip off the track.
Many are certain to do a double take when they see a motorcycle resembling the number nine Superbike machine parked in a public area. However, tempting though it may be for the 25-year-old to ride around the circuit instead of walk, the machine outside of the team’s hospitality facility will not be one of the race motorcycles. Those will be remaining safely in the team’s garage when they are not on track. Honda-Racing.co.uk sponsor Bikers Legal Defence (BLD) has had a road-going replica of the red, white and yellow-liveried CBR1000RR Fireblade created, which will be at the final five events of the season. Although the distinctive machine is easy to identify on a race track, fans are certainly not able to study it for long, due to the speeds that gritty Yorkshireman Harris demands from the motorcycle. The road-going replica will be an opportunity for visitors to get a closer look at the spectacular paintwork that adorns both machines. “The replica that BLD has had made looks fantastic,” said Harris. “My BLD-backed Honda-Racing.co.uk CBR1000RR Fireblade definitely stands out in the crowd on the track and I’m sure that the replica will be just as attention grabbing outside the hospitality area. It’s perfect for showing visitors to the events how similar the road-going machine is to the race bike.” BLD Managing Director Brad Parry said: “As I have personally ridden the Fireblade, I can honestly say that it is a most exhilarating, and enjoyable ride. However, I have never tested it to the max, as Karl does with the Honda-Racing.co.uk machine at every race meeting.”
