RACE VERSION OF UNIQUE SPINE-HUGGING BACK-PROTECTOR FROM KNOX

Planet Knox, the British impact protection specialists, have launched a racing specification version of their innovative Contour back protector three months early in response to demand from the public.

The ergonomically shaped Contour, which hugs the spine, has been so popular with road riders due to its levels of comfort, lightness & protection that Knox have introduced the Race version 3 months ahead of its planned launch at the NEC.

Like the regular road version, the Contour Race looks different from other back-protectors because of its S-shape that follows the contour of the spine, (hence the name). It weighs just 600g, making it one of the lightest back protectors on the market, yet offers maximum coverage of the back area, including side impact panels.

The Race version is 80mm (3”) longer than the road model as it has to cover the coccyx when the rider is in a permanent ‘racing crouch’.

Generous use of honeycomb polypropylene cells mean that the Contour transmits only 6KN of energy, a very comfortable 30% below the 9kN threshold permitted for level 2 protectors under the new European EN1621-2 back-protector standard. Additional protection is provided by a covering of tear & abrasion resistant Schoeller® Dynatec material down the centre.

Knox have paid great attention to comfort on this flagship product. The inside and waistband are covered with L System fabric, which incorporates Coolmax® for temperature control and Amicor™ antibacterial fibre, which reduces odours from perspiration, and the inside back area is covered with Schoeller® Comfortemp PCM which absorbs excess heat.
