SHAND DISAPPOINTED WITH TOP 10 FINISH
22 August 2005 - Aim Racing

Les Shand finished 7th in the Metzeler Racetec National Superstock Championship but was aiming for a strong podium finish.

Shand commented “I wanted to improve on my championship standings this weekend and I was feeling in confidant mood to do it. After the result at Castle Combe and the test we had here I wanted to be on the podium. My first aim this weekend was a front row start and that was on the cards till the last lap when I was pushed from 4th to 5th place by Ryan Rainey. Any other time I would have been pleased with 5th place but not today.

As the race got underway I got a good start and I was involved in a 3 way dash for the lead. As we turned into turn 1 Adrian Coates ran wide and hit Ryan Rainey, I was on the outside of Ryan and just missed being hit by him. As a result of this incident I nearly ran off the track and was relegated to 9th. It took a while for me to get back into a comfortable rhythm and pass the slower riders. It maybe the F1 circuit but its still difficult to overtake here.

What added insult to injury were my lap times; when I got into 7th place and some clear track my times were the same as the leaders. I’m still in 9th place in the championship with 4 races to go. I do well at the remaining tracks so I am expecting to bag a whole load of points and move further up the championship standings.”

Results: (1) Adrian Coates :-: Suzuki :-: 27:22.382, (2) Ollie Bridewell :-: Kawasaki :-: 27:23.806, (3) Lee Jackson :-: Yamaha 27:24.044, (7) Les Shand :-: Yamaha :-: 27:38.732.
