BAD LUCK HITS BURNS AT SILVERSTONE
22 August 2005 - Aim Racing
Burns failed to score at round 9 of the Bennetts Superbike championship at Silverstone.
The array of bad luck started on Friday morning when the engine blew up on his number one bike during free practice. Burns commented “This weekend has been a disaster for me and the team. I had an engine blow up on Friday and when I jumped on the spare bike I could not get it to turn. I felt uneasy with the spare bike and was unable to qualify in the top 20. I spoke to Dwayne and Steve and they agreed to change the engine over from the spare to the number one bike. The guys worked well into the night and I want to thank them for the effort they have put into this weekend for no reward. After the morning warm up the guys changed the clutch which is standard practice and it felt fine during the out lap for the first race. But as the race got underway I started to have problems on the second lap. As the lap progressed it got worst, I had to pull in at the end of that lap as the clutch was slipping really badly. The second race got underway the first two laps were fine and I was making my way through the pack. As I went through copse on lap 3 the engine cut out, this happened several times. I had to pull in as I didn’t want to cause any damage to the bike or cause an accident. I feel bad luck seems to follow me around, this weekend is now over and the guys have taken the bikes away to be stripped down and checked. We now need to concentrate on next weekend and forget about what’s happened.” Race 1 (1) Gregorio Lavilla :-: Ducati :-: 27:50.122, (2) Leon Haslam :-: 27:53.282, (3) John Reynolds :-: Suzuki :-: 28:00.226 Race 2 (1) Ryuichi Kiyonari :-: Honda :-: 23:15.938, (2) Gregorio Lavilla :-: Ducati :-: 23:17.428, (3) Leon Haslam :-: Ducati :-: 23:23.358.
