RAMON CAPTURES FIRST MX1 POLE OF THE SEASON
20 August 2005 - KTM-Sportmotorcycles AG

Team Red Bull KTM rider Steve Ramon defied wet and slippery conditions this afternoon at Gaildorf to grab his first pole position of the season with a rapid last minute circulation ensuring first pick in the gate for tomorrow’s Grand Prix of Germany, the fourteenth round of the 2005 Motocross World Championships.

The Belgian produced a masterful display under sustained rainfall to register a lap-time a tenth of a second faster than pole ‘master’ Mickael Pichon and pushed team-mate Ben Townley, who warmed top spot on the timing screens for large parts of the session, down to third place.

Kenneth Gundersen made his first World Championship outing of the season and negotiated his first Grand Prix practice sessions for over a year. The Norwegian improved in every period and rose from 29th to 19th to a final position of 13th throughout the day.

Rear wheel trouble affected both Carl Nunn and Marc de Reuver during MX2 proceedings today. Nunn suffered a broken sprocket in the morning free practice but was able to score fourth in the first heat. De Reuver was holding a runner-up berth behind Antonio Cairoli in the second race but a damaged rear wheel hub forced his retirement and subsequent qualification through the Last Chance period was obtained with the third quickest lap-time. David Philippaerts survived a scare in the morning after a fall and impact on his right shoulder necessitated an x-ray but the Italian was strong enough to claim third place in the second heat.
