HARRIS STARTS FROM ROW FOUR
20 August 2005 - Honda Racing

Honda-Racing.co.uk’s Karl Harris will start tomorrow’s two Bennetts British Superbike Championship races from the fourth row of the grid.

The Yorkshireman qualified in 15th position for the 22-lap races after struggling to optimise the set-up of the Dunlop/BLD-backed CBR1000RR Fireblade.

A recent test at the 2.213-mile Northamptonshire circuit enabled the Sheffield rider to continue the team’s development work with the machine. However, he was unable to match the times of the top ten contenders in today’s qualifying sessions for round nine of the series, despite being less than 1.3 seconds off Ryuichi Kiyonari’s pole position time.

Harris won last year’s Supersport race at Silverstone, but has found it difficult to translate that level of success to the larger capacity Superbike class this season. He used today’s two sessions to work on getting the right feel from the Honda-Racing.co.uk machine and is confident of improving his performance in tomorrow’s races.

Karl Harris: “The Honda-Racing.co.uk team is putting a lot of hard work and effort into getting the best out of the CBR1000RR Fireblade and I am sure that it will pay off. This weekend has been quite difficult so far but I’m a determined racer, so the most important day for me is tomorrow.

“Qualifying in 15th position means that I need to concentrate even harder on getting a good start. If I can do that, then I hope to build on the consistency I have shown in testing to force my way through the field.”

Qualifying: 1. R. Kiyonari (HM Plant Honda Racing) 1:26.111; 2. M. Rutter (HM Plant Honda Racing) 1:26.228; 3. G. Lavilla (Ducati) 1:26.334; 4. L. Haslam (Ducati) 1:26.366; 5. D. Thomas (Kawasaki) 1:26.419; 6. J. Reynolds (Suzuki) 1:26.537; 7. S. Smart (Kawasaki) 1:26.699; 8. J. Haydon (Suzuki) 1:26.714; 9. M. Laverty (Honda) 1:26.766; 10. G. Richards (Kawasaki) 1:26.858; 15. K. Harris (Honda-Racing.co.uk) 1:27.353
