JOEL SMETS'' CONDITION STABLE
24 August 2005 - Suzuki Racing

Team Suzuki rider Joel Smets is now back in Belgium, in a hospital based in the town of Herentals, after being taken from Southern Germany by ambulance yesterday.

The 36 year old has some internal bleeding in the left knee he badly dislocated during Saturday''s MX1 Free Practice for the Grand Prix of Germany at the Gaildorf circuit. The joint is in a stable condition and, although naturally in discomfort, the rider can move his toes and ankle.

He will consult with Dr Claes, famous for his knee surgery and work with other motocross riders, and undergo scans today to determine the extent of the damage to the ligaments inside the limb.

Smets broke the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in February 2004.
