WOLVERHAMPTON SPEEDWAY
16 August 2005 - British Speedway Promoters Association

Elite League: WOLVES 45 OXFORD 45

WOLVES dropped a point at home as they were held to a draw by basement club Oxford at Monmore Green on Monday night. The Silver Machine, who have endured a wretched season so far, had their Monmore specialists Greg Hancock and Billy Hamill in fine form, with Hamill enjoying his best night since returning from a serious back injury. Hancock won his first three races and Hamill dropped just a point all night as Wolves relied on the in-form David Howe and high-scoring reserve Ronnie Correy to keep them in contention. Having scored a 5-1 in Heat 14 to give Wolves the lead, Howe and Correy were charged with the task of keeping it in the last race, but it was always going to be tougher against Oxford''s American spearhead and it was Hamill who emerged in front with Howe keeping Hancock behind to at least salvage a draw.

WOLVES: David Howe 12+1, Ronnie Correy 11+1, Mark Loram 6, Magnus Karlsson 5+1, Fredrik Lindgren 5, Krzysztof Pecyna 3+2, Steve Johnston 3+1.

OXFORD: Billy Hamill 14, Greg Hancock 11, Travis McGowan 9+2, Niels-Kristian Iversen 8+1, Lubos Tomicek 2, Jamie Courtney 1, r/r for Henka Gustafsson.
