HISTORIC DOUBLE PODIUM FOR BRIDEWELL BROTHERS

Brothers Tommy and Ollie Bridewell, from Etchilhampton near Devizes in Wiltshire, continued their memorable summer of 2005 by recording a pair of podium finishes at a sun-kissed Silverstone in front of yet another massive Bennetts British Superbike Championship crowd for round nine of the series.

Following on from becoming the youngest ever winner of a Virgin Mobile Cup race at Knockhill two months ago, 17 year old Tommy secured his second successive pole position aboard the Wayside Racing Yamaha R6 in the Virgin Mobile Cup event, determined to put the disappointment of crashing out at the previous round at Snetterton five weeks ago out of his mind,

Tommy took the lead half way around the first lap of the Northants circuit before smoking the opposition to claim his second win of the series much to his delight:

“It was important for me to bounce back following the disappointment at Snetterton so I’m naturally delighted with the victory. I knew if I got out front I could control the race and that’s exactly what I did. If I can keep these sorts of results up, then the title is still a possibility and I’ll be gunning for race wins now as I’ve proved I can run up there without too many problems” said Tommy who now lies in seventh place in the standings, and who won a Yamaha scooter as a special bonus prize..

Meanwhile, elder brother Ollie secured his second successive podium placing when he brought the 1000cc Vivaldi Kawasaki home in second place in the Metzeler Racetec National Superstock Championship to score another rostrum placing of the season for the ambitious Vivaldi Racing Team.

The 19 year old duked it out with the experienced Adrian Coates, challenging for the lead throughout the 18 lap race held in near tropical temperatures before setting for safe points at the chequered flag.

Commentating live on Sky Sports, Ollie said he was very proud of his brother and that he hoped a decent press release would be getting sent out following their haul of silverware this weekend!

“It’s been a memorable weekend what with Tommy’s win and my second place and I’m sure our press office will enjoy writing this release!” said Ollie afterwards. “I could have won that race but I was just lacking a bit in experience so I’m going down the gym first thing tomorrow to train that little bit harder so I’m ready for whatever they throw at me at Cadwell. I want a win before the season’s out, two second places are great but as Tommy keeps telling me, there’s nothing like the feeling of victory…” concluded Ollie.

Both Tommy and Ollie will next be in action in just one week’s time when the BSB series visits Cadwell Park on August Bank Holiday Monday.
