26 June 2004 - British Speedway Promoters Association
HOME trio Tomas Topinka, Tom P Madsen and Adam Allott will carry the hopes of King’s Lynn fans in the Champions’ Chase at the Norfolk Arena on Wednesday.
Topinka and Madsen were automatic qualifiers for the meeting and Allott has joined them as a wild card along with Sheffield’s Andrew Moore. Lynn promoter Keith Chapman said: “It’s a great honour for us as a club to be staging this event.” READING are facing up to an injury crisis after losing both Danny Bird and Phil Morris in their 51-45 defeat at Glasgow. Morris crashed in his opening ride and was knocked out, whilst Bird came to grief in Heat 13 and suffered a cut to the head. In a meeting which took almost three-hours to complete, Glasgow also lost stand-in reserve Mark Thompson with a suspected broken wrist. STEVE Bishop rolled back the years to inspire Carmarthen to a much welcome 50-42 win over Stoke Spitfires at the Showground. The former Somerset man reeled off four straight wins, including one when he scored double points as a tactical ride, to help the Dragons hit back from a 10-point deficit. Dragons boss Nigel Meakins said: “This was a cracking meeting and we’re delighted to have secured the win.” FIXTURES) MONDAY JULY 26: SKYBET ELITE LEAGUE: Belle Vue v Arena Essex 7.45, Wolverhampton v Ipswich 7.30, Peterborough v Coventry 7.30 PREMIER LEAGUE: Reading v Newport 7.30 PREMIER LEAGUE KNOCKOUT CUP: Exeter v Sheffield 7.30 CONFERENCE LEAGUE: Wimbledon v Swindon 7.30 TUESDAY JULY 27: PREMIER LEAGUE: Isle of Wight v Stoke 7.30 WEDNESDAY JULY 28: SKYBET ELITE LEAGUE: Poole v Coventry 7.30, Arena Essex v Swindon 7.45 TENG TOOLS CHAMPIONS CHASE: King’s Lynn 7.30 CONFERENCE LEAGUE: Stoke v Buxton 7.30 CONFERENCE TROPHY: Wimbledon v King’s Lynn 7.30 THURSDAY JULY 29: SKYBET ELITE LEAGUE: Coventry v Belle Vue 7.45, Ipswich v Wolverhampton 7.30, Swindon v Peterborough 7.30 PREMIER LEAGUE: Sheffield v Reading 7.45 --- *BREAKING NEWS THROUGHOUT THE DAY AVAILABLE FROM: OFFICIAL BRITISH SPEEDWAY CLUBCALL NEWSLINE 09066 555 909 (calls cost 60p/min)
