MOTORCYCLE SHOW SECURES CHARLEY BOORMAN AS AMBASSADOR
17 August 2005 - MCI Exhibitions Ltd

Actor and motorcycle adventurer Charley Boorman is to become an ambassador for the 2005 International Motorcycle and Scooter Show in association with The Sun.

The Show, which takes place at the Birmingham NEC from 28th October to 6th November, will host the launch of Charley’s latest motorcycling adventure – the famous ‘Dakar’ rally, which he is set to start at the end of the year. Charley will be at the show to showcase the BMW F650 GS Dakar bike that he will be using, and introducing his team-mate for the rally – three time ‘Dakar’ veteran Simon Pavey.

Following on from the phenomenal success of ‘Long Way Round’ – Charley’s two-wheeled, round-the-world expedition with best friend Ewan McGregor, Charley has set his sights on a much tougher challenge in the form of the ‘Dakar’. The race has achieved legendary status as one of the most difficult and gruelling motor races on the globe - out of 230 motorcyclists that started the 2004 Dakar Rally only 104 bikes finished, and the riding conditions were so uncompromisingly bad that it is now regarded as one of the toughest ever.

Of his role as show ambassador, Charley said:
“I am very excited with my new role as ambassador for the bike show. It is a show that I am very fond of, and I enjoy going to every year. I am really looking forward to showing off my new Dakar bike and helping to promote this fantastic show. I only hope I have time to try out some of the incredible features that are new for 2005!”

As well as the launch of Charley’s Dakar adventure, the 2005 International Motorcycle and Scooter Show in association with The Sun is set to showcase the biggest and most comprehensive launch of new bikes to a British audience ever seen. It also promises to be the most exciting opportunity for visitors of all ages to have a go on one of the many new interactive features. New features for 2005 include the incredible ‘Bike Ride Out’ on the roads surrounding the NEC, and the adrenalin-driven ‘Off Road Experience’ in the woods around the NEC.
