SPEEDWAY NEWS AND FIXTURES
09 August 2005 - British Speedway Promoters Association
BELLE VUE boss Ian Thomas had high praise for veteran Andy Smith who piled up a score of 17 as the Aces maintained top spot with a win over Oxford.
Thomas said: ''We worked him hard by giving him seven races, and he did the business. ''He beat two former World Champions in Billy Hamill and Greg Hancock and I had no hesitation about giving him so many rides.'' EASTBOURNE boss Jon Cook was delighted that the Eagles recovered a 17-point deficit to take the bonus point against Ipswich - but is wary of his team''s next fixture. Cook said: ''It was a fantastic last-heat 5-1 from Nicki Pedersen and Adam Shields and it strengthens our bid for a play-off place. ''But our sternest test is yet to come because Wolverhampton are unbeaten at Arlington in two years.''
