GREEN FLAG BACKS ROAD SAFETY WEEK FOR FIFTH YEAR RUNNING Roadside assistance expert Green Flag has confirmed its continued backing for Road Safety Week, a national week of events dedicated to providing road safety advice to all road users. This is the fifth year running that Green Flag will sponsor Road Safety Week, supporting charity organisation Brake with a variety of activities throughout the week, which takes place November 7 to 13 2005. Road Safety Week is an annual event organised by Brake and supported by schools, the police, local government and businesses, to promote safer driving and road safety skills. The theme this year is ''watch out there''s a kid about'' and Brake aims to raise awareness of the shocking number of children killed or injured on Britain''s roads every year. Green Flag spokesperson Melanie Denny said: ''Road accidents are the biggest killer of children aged 12 to 16 in the UK. As a leading motoring organisation, safety on the roads is of great importance to us, which is why Green Flag feels compelled to support Brake in its campaign to reduce the number of child road casualties and fatalities.'' This year Brake and Green Flag are encouraging drivers to slow down around schools and residential areas where children may be playing, and also encouraging schools to get involved with road safety lessons for children of all ages. Green Flag has also confirmed that it will be the sole sponsor of a scheme to educate pre-school children in road safety called Beep Beep! Day. The initiative will involve more than 150 nurseries and pre-school groups around the UK between August and October. Brake is a road safety charity that aims to prevent road crashes through education, and relieve suffering of bereaved and seriously injured road crash victims through support services.
