SPEEDWAY NEWS AND FIXTURES
07 August 2005 - British Speedway Promoters Association

POLAND romped to an emphatic victory in Saturday''s World Cup Final to lift the Ove Fundin Trophy on home territory at Wroclaw.

Each Polish rider won at least three races as the hosts finished on 62 points, a massive 28 ahead of second-placed Sweden. The Swedes beat Denmark to the silver medal by three points with Great Britain a further four back on 27 despite a brilliant display by Lee Richardson.

POLISH skipper Tomasz Gollob was delighted to end Poland''s nine-year wait to lift the World Cup with their victory at Wroclaw. Gollob top-scored for the host nation on 14 points with all of his team-mates also in double figures. He said: ''It has been a long time since our last World Cup win and I am happy for the team, happy for the fans and happy for the whole of Poland.''

BERWICK are back on top of the Premier League after a 15-point win over Newcastle headlined by a paid maximum for Adrian Rymel. Reserve Carl Wilkinson once again underlined his form by piling up a score of paid 18 from seven rides at reserve. Bandits boss Peter Waite said: ''It was sweet to get revenge over Newcastle and now we have to knuckle down to the remaining matches.''
