TOWNLEY TENTH FASTEST AT LOKET
06 August 2005 - KTM-Sportmotorcycles AG

Ben Townley could only register the tenth fastest lap this afternoon after a cloudy MX1 Timed Practice at the Loket circuit for the motorcycle Grand Prix of Czech Republic, the thirteenth round of seventeen in the Motocross World Championship.

The New Zealander was happy with his riding. “I feel much more comfortable today than I have felt in the last couple of races, much more than my result currently shows!” he smiled. “My rhythm was a lot better and I am looking forward to the race tomorrow. I am only 1.7 seconds from Mickael and I don’t think that is too bad.”

His team-mate Steve Ramon posted a time to break into the top ten but was then bumped down to eleventh in the final seconds of the period; the Belgian was just two hundredths of a second slower than Townley in a very tight ranking that saw the top twenty split by just three seconds.

Yves Demaria, taking advantage of a summer break in the MX3 World Championship where he is defending his crown, was making his first MX1 race appearance since St Jean d’Angely in 2004 and completed the chrono in thirteenth.

The track was testing, with the loose dirt slow in allowing lines and ruts to be created. The surface was slippery and passing opportunities will be rare unless rainfall during the evening allows the terrain to become a lot softer.

In MX2 Carl Nunn looked assured and confident during the first qualification heat. The Briton was holding fourth place on the first lap before a small fall meant that he had to claw his way through the top ten. The current British Championship leader used some effective lines, appearing to have a good feeling on the loose Czech dirt, and cut his way to third position. In the second sprint Marc de Reuver was able to capture second spot after team-mate David Philippaerts suffered a hefty crash two-thirds into the race. The Italian sustained some back pain and was unable to finish. De Reuver now enters the gate fourth for the Grand Prix motos on Sunday. Philippaerts made the cut by ending up second fastest in the final outing of the day (lining up 26th for the motos tomorrow).
